Moremi Game Reserve
10 Hours
Okavango Delta, Moremi Game Reserve, Khwai Concession and Savuti
Safari & Wildlife Tour
If the Okavango Delta is the most beautiful place in Africa, Moremi Game Reserve is where that beauty is backed up by some of the continent's most intense wildlife. Occupying the eastern third of the Okavango Delta, Moremi is a 4,871 km² reserve that combines the delta's waterways and islands with dryland savanna and mopane woodland, a habitat mosaic that supports extraordinary diversity.
This 10-hour day trip from Maun takes you 80km into Moremi for a full day of game drives, lunch at the reserve, and return to Maun in the late afternoon.
Moremi was declared a Game Reserve in 1963 by the Batawana people, one of the first communities in Africa to protect their own land voluntarily. That early protection means Moremi has never been exploited, and its wildlife populations reflect it. This is not a managed park where animals have been habituated to tourist vehicles over decades, it's a wild reserve where game viewing is genuinely unpredictable and all the more exciting for it.

Moremi's wild dog population is one of the most studied and reliable in Africa, if you have any interest in seeing one of the continent's most endangered large predators, this is one of the best places to try.
Early departure from Maun, pickup from your hotel at Maun (Island Safari Lodge or equivalent) and a 80km drive north following the buffalo fence road into the reserve. Keep your eyes open on the drive, game is often visible before you even enter the park.
Inside Moremi, your guide targets the reserve's most productive areas: the Xakanaxa Lagoon area (excellent for waterbirds, hippos, and predator activity around the water), the Mopane Tongue (forested peninsula with excellent leopard habitat), and the open floodplains (lion, wild dog, and elephant).
Picnic lunch, served in a scenic location inside the reserve.
Afternoon game drives, the best light for photography is the late afternoon, when golden light falls across the floodplains and animals are active again after the midday heat.
Return to Maun, late afternoon, arriving at your lodge in time for sunset drinks.

June–August: Dry season, excellent visibility, wildlife concentrated around water, peak wild dog activity, and good predator sightings. The most popular season.
September–October: Late dry season, even better predator concentrations; hot but spectacular wildlife viewing.
November–March: Green season, beautiful landscape, newborn animals, outstanding birdwatching as migratory species arrive. Fewer visitors.
Both are exceptional, and they offer different experiences:
