2 Days 12 Hours
Victoria Falls
Safari & Wildlife Tour
A day trip to Hwange is impressive. Two nights changes everything. When you stay in the park, you get game drives at the hours that matter, the pre-dawn cool when predators are still moving, and the blue-hour evening when elephants crowd the floodlit waterholes by the hundreds. You hear lions at night. You wake up and the bush is right there. It's the difference between visiting Africa and being in it.
This 3-day, 2-night safari departs from Victoria Falls and includes accommodation at Hwange Safari Lodge, four guided game drives in an open safari vehicle, all meals, and a stop at the Painted Dog Conservation Centre on the drive in. It's the complete Hwange experience without the price tag of a private camp.
| Day | Activity |
|---|---|
| Day 1 | 6:00am: Victoria Falls pickup. Painted Dog Conservation Centre en route. Afternoon game drive. Dinner at lodge. |
| Day 2 | Early morning game drive. Breakfast. Relax. Afternoon game drive. Bush dinner. |
| Day 3 | Dawn game drive. Breakfast. Return to Victoria Falls by midday. |
Hotel pickup at 9:00am and a 3-hour scenic drive to Hwange, passing through Zimbabwe's western wildlife corridor. En route, you stop at the Painted Dog Conservation Centre near Hwange town, an excellent facility focused on saving the endangered African wild dog (also called painted dog or painted wolf). The centre has dogs in its release pens and the conservation staff explain the programme in detail. It's a worthwhile 30–45 minutes.
On arrival at Hwange Main Camp, you check in and have lunch. The afternoon brings your first game drive, typically 3++ hours through the park's central game drive loops, focusing on the main waterholes where elephants congregate in extraordinary numbers. Return to the lodge for dinner and your first night in the bush.
This is the heart of your safari. An early morning drive, departing well before sunrise, targets the predators and nocturnal species that are still active at dawn: lion, leopard, hyena, wild dog, bat-eared fox. The morning light on the savanna, with elephants silhouetted against a pink sky, is the kind of scene people travel to Africa specifically for.
Back at the lodge for a late breakfast and time to relax on the deck, watching wildlife approach the waterhole below. The afternoon game drive focuses deeper into the park, exploring the Sinamatella region or the open plains toward the Ngweshla picnic site, where the wildlife density during dry season is extraordinary. Dinner at the lodge, and another night listening to the sounds of the African bush.
One final dawn drive before heading back. Hwange at first light, cool, golden, and quiet, is genuinely special. After the drive, breakfast at the lodge, pack up, and begin the return drive to Victoria Falls, arriving by approximately 12:00–13:00.
