Victoria Falls Botswana Safari: 6 Trips, 1 Day to 7 Nights

The best Victoria Falls Botswana safari depends on how many days you have. With one day, take a Chobe day trip from Victoria Falls. With two to four days, a Chobe camping safari puts you inside the park for dawn and dusk. With five days, a guided package pairs the falls with a day in Chobe. With a week, you can add the Okavango Delta. Prices run from $180 per person for the day trip to $2,640 for the seven-night itinerary.

Botswana is close. The Kazungula border is roughly an hour’s drive from Victoria Falls town, so distance is not the problem. The real questions are how long to stay, how borders and visas work, and what you give up if you only have a day. This article walks through six trips we run at Maximum Adventure Trails from our base in Victoria Falls, ordered from shortest to longest, with what each includes and what to check before you book.

All prices are in US dollars and come from our current trip listings.

1. Chobe day trip from Victoria Falls

The day trip to Chobe is the quickest way to add Botswana to a Victoria Falls stay. It takes one full day and you keep your hotel in town.

A riverboat with passengers sails past elephants drinking on a sandy bank.

What the trip covers

You are collected around 07:00, cross at Kazungula and spend the day in Chobe National Park, known for its elephants. Plan on 10 hours door to door, split between the river and the bush.

  • Duration: 10 hours
  • Pickup: around 07:00 from Victoria Falls hotels
  • Activities: Chobe River cruise and an open-vehicle game drive
  • Transfers: included

Who it suits

This trip is for travelers on a short Victoria Falls stay who want to see Botswana’s wildlife without changing hotels. It also works for anyone who wants to test a safari before committing to a longer one. Skip it if you want dawn or dusk game viewing, because a day trip keeps you in the park through the middle of the day.

Cost and what to check

The price is $180 per person, or $110 per child under 12. A family of two adults and one child pays $180 + $180 + $110 = $470.

The day trip gives you Botswana’s wildlife in 10 hours, at the price of one night in a mid-range hotel.

Check your visa position before you book. The Kaza Univisa costs USD 50 per person and covers up to 30 days with multiple entries within Zambia and Zimbabwe. It also covers same-day visits into Botswana through Kazungula. If your nationality needs a Zimbabwe or Zambia visa anyway, it is the simplest way to cover a day trip. For timing, Chobe is strongest in the dry months, roughly May to October, when animals gather along the river.

2. Chobe safari and Impalila Island day trip

This longer Chobe safari and Impalila Island day trip suits travelers who want more than the standard Chobe outing and can give it a full day. It adds a visit to Impalila Island in Namibia.

What the trip covers

You get a Chobe game drive, a guided visit to Impalila Island in Namibia, a buffet lunch and a Chobe River cruise. The trip runs about 13 hours depending on the itinerary you select, with an early morning departure from selected Victoria Falls accommodation.

  • Duration: approximately 13 hours
  • Activities: game drive, island visit, buffet lunch, river cruise
  • Countries touched: Zimbabwe, Botswana and Namibia

Who it suits

Pick this one if you have already decided on a day trip and want more variety and a slower pace on the water. The island visit and sit-down lunch break up the day. It is a long day, so it fits less well with young children or with a stay where you also want to see the falls the same afternoon.

Cost and what to check

The price starts from US$200 per person. That is about $20 more than the standard trip for roughly three extra hours, the island visit and the lunch. A couple pays from $400.

Because the route touches Namibia, ask what your passport needs for that leg. The Kaza Univisa covers same-day Botswana visits through Kazungula only, so do not assume it extends to the island. Confirm the exact itinerary version and pickup point when you book.

3. One-night Chobe camping safari

A one-night camping safari is the smallest step up from a day trip, and it changes the experience more than the extra night suggests. You sleep inside the park.

A canvas tent stands on sand beside a bush track, with a chair and lantern outside.

What the trip covers

This is a 2-day, 1-night itinerary from Victoria Falls with a river cruise, game drives and a night under canvas inside Chobe National Park. Return transfers from Victoria Falls to Chobe and back are included. You need no camping experience.

  • Duration: 2 days, 1 night
  • Accommodation: one night camping inside the park
  • Included: river cruise, game drives, return transfers

Who it suits

Choose this if the day trip feels rushed. Being in the park overnight means you catch the early morning and evening hours, when animals are most active, instead of driving out as the light turns best. It suits couples and small groups who are happy with simple camp comfort rather than a lodge.

Cost and what to check

The trip costs from $330 per person, with a 5% discount available. Two travelers pay from $660 before the discount. Ask about the discount when you request your booking.

One night inside the park buys you the dawn and dusk game viewing that a day trip cannot give you.

Ask what Botswana entry requirements apply to your nationality, since an overnight stay is not the same as a same-day crossing under the Kaza Univisa.

4. Three-night Chobe camping safari

The three-night camping safari is the choice for travelers who want depth in one park. You spend four days in and around Chobe instead of one.

What the trip covers

This is a 4-day, 3-night camping safari with daily game drives, a river cruise, an optional walking safari and three nights in camp inside the park. Repeated drives let you work different parts of the riverfront and see how the wildlife changes through the day.

  • Duration: 4 days, 3 nights
  • Accommodation: camping inside Chobe National Park
  • Activities: daily game drives, river cruise, optional walking safari
  • Excluded: Botswana visa fees if applicable to your nationality

Who it suits

This one is for people who want more than a day trip and do not need lodge comforts. If wildlife and time outdoors matter more to you than a pool and room service, the longer stay gives better sightings. It also frees you from the rhythm of a long round trip each day.

Cost and what to check

The listed price is $620. Ask whether it is quoted per person or per group so you can budget correctly. Also ask about the walking safari, which is optional, and about Botswana visa fees for your passport, because they are not included.

Compare it with the one-night trip: three nights cost less than double the one-night rate. If the $620 is per person, the extra time is the better value. Book it if you can spare four days.

5. Four-night Victoria Falls and Chobe package

The classic package is the best fit if you want the falls and Botswana in one organized trip, with the logistics handled.

A three-step process showing the falls, Livingstone in Zambia, and a Chobe day trip.

What the trip covers

This five-day guided package covers Victoria Falls, Livingstone in Zambia and a full-day Chobe trip in Botswana. You stay at Shearwater Village, and the roundtrip airport transfer is included. That means you see the falls from the Zimbabwe side, cross into Zambia, then spend a day in Chobe.

  • Duration: 5 days (4 nights)
  • Accommodation: Shearwater Village
  • Included: roundtrip airport transfer
  • Coverage: Victoria Falls, Livingstone, Chobe day trip

Who it suits

It is aimed at first-time visitors, couples, families and small groups who want an organized Victoria Falls experience without piecing activities together. If you would rather not plan border crossings and transfers yourself, this is the package to pick.

Cost and what to check

The package is listed at $1,100. The Kaza Univisa at USD 50 per person suits this itinerary well, because it covers both Zambia and Zimbabwe plus same-day Chobe.

Time the falls, not just the safari: water peaks around March to May and is lowest around October and November.

At high water the falls are at their most dramatic, and you will get wet. At low water you can swim in Devil’s Pool and the views of the cliff face open up. Choose by what you care about most.

6. Seven-night Victoria Falls, Chobe and Okavango Delta safari

This is the full version of a Victoria Falls Botswana safari. It links the falls, Chobe and the Okavango Delta in one guided seven-night safari.

What the trip covers

The itinerary runs seven nights with transfers and border crossings handled for you. You stay at Shearwater Village or similar. International flights are excluded, to Victoria Falls and from Maun, which makes it an open-jaw trip with no backtracking. You enter through the falls and leave from the Delta side.

  • Duration: 7 nights
  • Accommodation: Shearwater Village or similar
  • Route: Victoria Falls, Chobe National Park, Okavango Delta
  • Excluded: international flights

Who it suits

Take this if the Delta is the reason you are going. It suits travelers with a week to spare who want the key Southern Africa sights without handling the logistics. Mokoro (canoe) excursions are one of the Delta’s signature activities, but they depend on water levels. Floodwaters usually build through the middle of the year, so water activities are most reliable from about June onward, and a low flood year can delay them.

Cost and what to check

The itinerary is listed at $2,640, before international flights. Booking terms matter on a trip this size. We ask for a 50% deposit at booking and the balance 90 days before departure. Cancellations 90 days or more out receive a full refund minus bank charges, so book early only once your dates are firm.

Picking your trip

The shorter your stay, the more you trade depth for convenience. A Chobe day trip gives you elephants and a river cruise at $180 per person. An overnight in the park adds the best light. A longer camping safari or the classic package adds time, and the seven-night itinerary adds the Okavango Delta. Match the trip to your days, your season and your visa position, then book.
